Transphobia
KRXQ Update : UC Davis Health Systems renounces association with the Rob Arnie & Dawn Show. Also, tomorrow is when the radio station will make their public announcement on their morning show. You can listen to it tomorrow morning, on their website at 7:30AM Pacific Coast Time.
First Hate Comment on My Site : A person by the name of “Disgusted” posted this on my site in response to my KRXQ updates. I initially deleted the comment, but I feel like this person has a right to voice their “opinion”, but I am going let it be posted here so that my readers see the kind of bigotry that transpeople face in their day to day lives. Trust me, this is nothing compared to other things I have heard.
“You all need to get over yourselves. You are turning this country into a bunch of whiners. Your hypocrisy amazes me. I understand that it is quite “Trendy” to be gay, lesbian, transgender or whatever you call it these days, but I do not have to accept your choice or agree with it. I can disagree and even say so if I want to. I could even go as far a make a joke about your life style if I felt like it, because I am a Free American. The biggest tragedy of all is that people like you are trying to change America. You don’t want people to be free to think, to have opinions and voice them, especially if they disagree with you. I wonder what other freedoms you think Americans should no longer have…”

I’m sorry you got such a hateful comment. IMHO, it is your blog and you don’t have to tolerate hate here, regardless of this person’s “right” to
their opinionharass people. If someone came in your house and peed on your carpet you’d have every right to tell them to leave. It is harassment and it’s entirely your choice as to how you handle it. I’m not judging either way, but you shouldn’t feel bad about deleting the comment out of this person’s right to voice theirhatred.Do you have a written commenting/emailing/privacy policy on your blog? Comments are pretty fair game for reproduction since they were originally intended to be public in the first place. I’ve seen other bloggers get slammed for reproducing emails or deleting comments on their blogs…which is usually alleviated by pointing the offended party to the commenting/emailing/privacy policy. Sort of a peripheral issue to the one at hand, but it might be something to think about.
Lastly, and most importantly, this commenter is a hypocrite. Getting all uppity about being a “Free American” who is allowed to make a joke or just be outright hateful at another person’s expense, but then upset that other people (incidentally, also “Free Americans”) are somehow “changing America”. Huh. So this guy is free to be a jerk, but other people should not have the freedom to live their lives in peace? And this person is calling you a hypocrite? It’s hypocrisy squared!
Blech. I’m going to shut up now, but I just wanted to say that I’m sorry that you have to deal with this crap.
I recieved a similar comment on my blog, too. Must have been from a RAD fan.
Typical conservative comment, preserve the status quo: obviously someone who benefits from said status quo, after all. I’d welcome them to try on another person’s shoes for a few minutes.
great comment to illustrate how privilege, ignorance, and benefiting from others’ oppression tend to occur together. what a loser.
+1 what Naila said. What a maroon.
Huck, this site is YOUR space and I fail to see how you’re required to abide commenter stupidity. This person is not sharing their opinion in good faith, hoping for reasoned discourse with you. They’re attacking you without good reason and changing the damn subject in a rather disingenuous manner (HELLO THE PROBLEM WAS APPROVING OF CHILD ABUSE, NOT HAVING A DAMN OPINION, WACKO). In conclusion: eff ‘em. And thank you for sharing some of what trans folk deal with on a daily basis. Thank you for continuing to write in spite of this crap. *big hugs*
